The Truth Pixie Goes to School by Matt Haig

She tries to avoid everyone without luck and ends up upsetting a couple of elves, a rabbit and a large troll. She sees this as a curse and so her only friend is a mouse called Maarta who lives in her hair. The Truth Pixie keeps herself hidden away as everything that comes out of her mouth is the truth – and people don’t want to hear the truth. The illustrations by Chris Mould are stunning and the way the story flows is a joy to read. The Truth Pixie shouldn’t be restricted to children! This book is delightful in every way. Although it’s a children’s book I was instantly drawn in by the idea of teaching youngsters to love themselves – something we as adults could also work on. When I saw the excitement on Twitter around his latest release, The Truth Pixie, I had to investigate. His tweets help those of us struggling with depression to speak out and feel less alone. I’ve read a couple of Matt Haig’s adult books and find his words to be inspiring and motivational. There’s a subtle undertone to this that focuses on emotions, mental health, and how telling the full, unvarnished truth may hurt others’ feelings, and perhaps the better approach is to focus on the positives. Everyone will appreciate the inspired illustrations by Chris Mould included throughout this book. The first three are more likely to appeal to all ages, but this might appeal more to younger readers, who can appreciate the sing-song-like rhythm of this story. I think all four (or 3.5, if you must) books in this series are charming, delightful, and fun. The Truth Pixie can only say things that are true. I’ve read a few other books by Matt Haig over the last few years, but I think my favourites were the first books in this Christmas series ( A Boy Called Christmas, The Girl Who Saved Christmas,and Father Christmas and Me) are so charming that I was really looking forward to reading this one – in order, this is book #3.5 of the Christmas series.
